Capri, located in the Gulf of Naples, has been a holiday favourite since Roman times, and is one of Italy’s most idyllic islands. Lined by precipitous craggy cliffs, it is home to rich and varied flora, and offers endless possibilities for outdoor adventures, from boat trips to cable car rides and energetic hikes.

Boat trip

There’s no better way to soak up the Mediterranean’s turquoise water and admire Capri’s cove-studded coastline than by taking a boat trip. Our concierge team can organise two or three hour tours by typical Gozzo boat , or alternatively, a private boat can be organised for the day to discover some of Capri’s more secluded swimming spots. It’s definitely worth stopping by the legendary Blue Grotto, a cave accessed by a narrow opening. The sunlight coming in from outside the grotto through the entrance causes a beautiful reflection on the crystalline blue water, giving the cave its name.

Hikes

Capri is home to the most scenic and breath-taking hiking trails, perfect for exploring the island’s extraordinary rock formations and historic ruins. The Sentieri dei fortini (‘Path of Forts’) in Anacapri is one of the island’s most spectacular walks, crossing the western coast of the island from the Blue Grotto to Punta Carena, and takes around three hours to complete. Plenty of cliffs, promontories, and small creeks, as well as several old forts, are found scattered along the way. In downtown Capri, the picturesque Tragara trail begins at the boutique-lined Via Camerelle and takes walkers through the Belvedere di Tragara, offering awe-inspiring views of the Marina Piccola on one side and the famous Faraglioni rocks on the other.

Chairlift in Anacapri

Hop into the chairlift in Piazza Vittoria for a 12-minute ride to the top of Mount Solaro, the island’s highest and most panoramic point. At 589 metres above sea level, it offers stunning views over the island of Capri, the Amalfi Coast and the distant mountains of Calabria. Enjoy a drink at La Canzone del Cielo café and then head to the Hermitage of S. Maria di Cetrella. Built in around 1400, the church consists of two naves: one dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the other has a 16th century painting representing San Domenico.

Migliera viewpoint

Every inch of Capri is paradisiacal. Despite being a small island, it offers endless opportunities for enchanting coastal views. Strolling out from the centre of Anacapri past rural farmhouses and vine-covered terraces to the dramatic Belvedere del Tuono viewpoint is highly recommended. It’s undoubtedly one of the island’s best, offering broad views over the sea and the Punta Carena lighthouse. After the 40-minute stroll, enjoy local specialities (perhaps a ravioli capresi or pollo al mattone) and wine made in the surrounding vineyards at the family-run restaurant Da Gelsomina, while taking in the dramatic sight of the sun slipping below the horizon.
